Which mode should I use?
Camera is best when you have a way to prop your phone up (tripod, glass, stack of books). Trace what you see on the screen.
Lightbox is best on flat surfaces — lay your phone face-up and place thin paper over the screen to trace the illuminated outline.
AR (PRO) locks the template to your paper via image tracking. Best when you want to move around or zoom in without losing alignment.
How do I generate a custom AI stencil?
Tap the “Generate” button and type any idea (e.g. “dragon breathing fire” or “a cat wearing a hat”). Stencly's AI creates a clean, traceable outline in seconds. AI generation is a PRO feature.
What's the difference between free and PRO?
Free: 10+ starter templates per category, Camera and Lightbox modes, save traced photos.
PRO: full 500+ template library, AI-generated custom stencils, and AR mode.
How do I manage my subscription?
You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime through Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions on your iPhone, or through the App Store app.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open the paywall screen in Stencly and tap “Restore Purchases”. You'll need to be signed in with the same Apple ID that bought the subscription originally.
AR mode isn't working — what should I do?
Stencly requires iOS 17 or newer (iPhone XS / XR and later). Make sure the App has camera permission (iOS Settings → Stencly → Camera), and try to trace on a well-lit, matte paper for the best tracking.
Is my data private?
Yes. Stencly doesn't require an account, doesn't collect your name or email, and camera frames never leave your device. See our Privacy Policy for details.
